Spicy Cilantro Grapefruit Coin Margarita

I absolutely LOVE margaritas. You with me?!

Here's a new take on an old classic.

It's made with dōTERRA CPTG essential oils (all of these are indicated as safe to ingest*). And, why would I make this with essential oils instead of a mix or from fresh citrus? I prefer using wholesome ingredients that are free from additives and chemicals. This version is low glycemic (aka, I don't get a screaming hangover or headache). Plus, this is what I have in my house. When I use my dōTERRA oils, it is "on the cheap" since a tiny amount goes a L-O-n-g way. What I've learned about citrus oils is that they have wonderful benefits like bringing on an uplifted mood. Who doesn't like that!!!?

There are so many benefits! ;-)

Ingredients:

3 drops Grapefruit oil

2 drops Lime oil

1 drop Wild Orange oil

2 slices fresh lime

1.5 oz Tequila of choice (I like Exotico Blanco, and you can increase or decrease this amount to make it as strong or as weak as you like)

Soda Water (I love La Croix because it's available at Costco in a variety pack: lemon, lime, grapefruit, and no flavor)

sea salt of choice (I love pink Himalayan sea salt)

Dash raw stevia (I prefer ground raw stevia leaf)

2 slices fresh jalapeno

Tbsp fresh cilantro

Small paper plate (appetizer size works great)

Purified Ice**

Instructions:

Pour your salt onto the paper plate. Use a slice of fresh lime to rim the glass.

Recently, I was at a big camping party and someone commented on my DIY margarita, "Woah, you went through the trouble of salting your rim kinda like you're at a bar..." What I've realized is that I know what I like, and if I'm gonna make a drink, I am certainly going to make it how I like it. Once you know what you like, you don't have to sacrifice your preferences just because you're camping in the middle of the desert. If you don't know how to salt the rim of your glass, you can Google it. It's super easy and worth it if you like a salted rim. ;-)

Add a dash of the stevia (optional)

Add the grapefruit, wild orange, and lime essential oils

In a small container, muddle the fresh jalapeno and cilantro and add to the rimmed glass.

Fill the salted glass with purified ice.

Add the tequila.

Top with Soda Water.

Give it a quick mix with the knife you used to cut the lime.

Add a slice of lime to the rim.

Enjoy! Ay-ya-YAy-Yayyyy!

**The reason I prefer purified ice is that it doesn't contain fluoride.
