DIY Whipped Magnesium Body Butter

This is a super rich therapeutic grade** body butter that is wonderful for our dry Colorado climate. It is full of healing therapeutic grade essential oils: Copaiba, Helichrysum, Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Deep Blue soothing blend, AromaTouch massage blend, and Lavender (all dōTERRA).

Magnesium oil is a powerful way to add magnesium to your daily regimen as it absorbs nicely into the skin - our largest gland. Magnesium is wonderfully calming to the body and mind.

It's made with Coconut oil, Shea butter, beeswax, lanolin, Vitamin E, Jojoba, and Avocado oils along with Aloe Vera gel. I researched a bunch of recipes to learn how to keep it solid at room temperature (75 degrees or cooler). The key to this is using a solid such as beeswax. This super ooooey-goooey body butter feels luxurious. I bought these super cute jars from the Dollar Tree so that I could keep them in the refrigerator in small doses. This recipe makes approximately 14 oz of butter.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coconut oil (organic)

1/2 cup shea butter (organic)

3/4 cup beeswax pellets

1 Tbsp lanolin*

1 tsp vitamin E oil

1 tsp jojoba oil

1 tsp avocado oil (non gmo)

15 drops Copaiba oil

12 drops Massage blend oil

12 drops Ylang Ylang oil

7 drops Lavender

5 drops Helichrysum oil

4 drops Soothing Blend oil

4 drops Frankincense oil

1/8 cup aloe vera gel (organic)

1/4 cup magnesium oil

Instructions:

Pour the magnesium oil and aloe vera gel into a glass bowl. Whisk with a fork until blended. Set this aside for later.

Add all the oils, lanolin, butter, and the beeswax into a double boiler and heat on low so that the oils don't overheat. You can use a heat approved Pyrex bowl within a saucepan if you don't own a double boiler. Stir the oils with a wooden popsicle stick every few minutes until they are completely melted together.

Remove the oils from the heat and pour into a medium glass bowl. Cool in the refrigerator for 20 minutes until the oils become opaque.

Whip the oils in the glass bowl using either a hand mixer or standing mixer on high for 10 minutes. Continue scooping the mixture on the sides of the bowl as you mix so that no mixture is wasted and is blended thoroughly. Slowly pour in the magnesium and aloe vera gel into the bowl at about a teaspoon at a time per a few minutes of whipping. This will take about another 10 minutes of whipping on high.

Once all of the magnesium oil and aloe have been successfully whipped into the mixture, cool in the refrigerator for another 20 minutes.

Remove the mixture from the refrigerator and whip again for another 5 minutes. This will allow the body butter to become as whipped as possible.

Scoop the mixture into small glass jars. You store them in small portions in the refrigerator for up to a year so that they remain as fresh as possible. I found cute little 2 oz mason jars at the Dollar Tree which work perfect and also used some other random small jars I had sitting around the house.

Application:

Apply this as soon as you get out of the bath or shower so that it absorbs into your warm skin. There are tiny particles that seem gritty at first, this is the magnesium and aloe that has crystallized during the cooling process. These will melt into your warm hands when rubbing into your skin.

Enjoy!

Where to get supplies:

  • dōTERRA CPTG Essential Oils: https://www.doterra.com/US/en/site/blissfulsol

  • The oils, butters, aloe vera gel, and lanolin you can purchase online or at any reputable health-food store such as Natural Grocers or Whole Foods

  • 2 oz mason jars at the Dollar Tree which work perfect and also used some other random jars that were sitting around my house

Notes:

*If you're not into lanolin, you can omit this. I'd suggest upping the beeswax by another tablespoon if you do so that it remains solid at room temperature.
